GP Registration (The Swan Practice)

The Swan PracticeThe Swan Practice (formerly North End Surgery) holds a clinic on campus and you must register with them at the beginning of your course. The Practice is open from 08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday. Please telephone 01280 818600 as soon as possible after 08:00 if you are in need of a same day appointment with a GP. Future appointments with a GP can be made anytime.

You will be offered an appointment on campus at the Student Welfare Office. The Swan Practice runs a clinic on campus on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday between 10.30am and 12pm. Please not that this is NOT a 'drop in' clinic and all appointments must be booked through the main practice telephone number 01280 818600. Please arrive on time for your appointment and remember to cancel it if you no longer need it.

Urgent Problems/Emergencies

  • Urgent problems/emergencies will always take priority and will be dealt with the same day wherever possible.  Please say if you feel you need an emergency appointment.
  • If you need urgent medical advice when the surgery is closed please telephone 111.  Your details will be passed on to the Out of Hours doctor who will help you.
  • In a life-threatening emergency telephone for an ambulance on 999.

You can make an appointment with a practice nurse for help with any of the following conditions:

  • Hypertension Check
  • Removal of stitches
  • Holiday Vaccination
  • Wound Dressings
  • Contraceptive advice/check
  • NHS Health Checks
  • Blood Tests
  • Cervical Smears
  • Injections
  • Diabetic Clinic
  • Stop Smoking Clinics

Repeat prescriptions can only be issued once you have undergone an initial consultation with a Doctor. The Doctor will agree your current medication requirements and record this information in your clinical record. You can then get a repeat prescription without having to see a Doctor, by ordering your drugs each month. You can either register online by coming into the surgery and registering for online access, or you can tick the relevant boxes on the white piece of paper attached to your medication bag or write your request and post or deliver to the practice. Please remember requests for prescripions take 2 working days.
