The unit aims to enable students to make progress towards meeting some of the learning outcomes described in Outcomes for Graduates (2017), in particular those relevant to 'The Doctor as a Scholar and Scientist; 'The Doctor as a Practitioner' and 'The Doctor as a Professional'. The specific aim is to enable students to gain an insight into the patient's perspective as they navigate the NHS for all aspects of their care through a longitudinal relationship with a patient over 18 months. Students will develop the ability to integrate the knowledge gained throughout Phase I of the MBChB course and apply this knowledge to a real life situation, as well as developing the ability to reflect on experiences as a basis for life-long learning. Students will be encouraged to log some of their experiences in their e-portfolios.
